Community Shield preseason match with the Sounders hosting the Portland Timbers. March 11, 2010 will be one of the favorite matches of the year! Don’t miss it.

Gorilla FC will be at Fado early. Come preparty with us at Fado starting at 330pm. Members with scarves get drink specials! Civ will lead the first slacker march early from Fado. Tickets aren’t included in your season ticket package and are GA. Gorilla FC will be sitting in 119 and 120! Nice to get some preseason practice in against the lower league Timbers! GFC members can pick up scarves and new members can buy them before and after the match. We leave Fado at 445.

General Admission tickets for the event will go on sale Wednesday, February 10, at 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (6-17). Children under the age of six are free. Tickets will be available at www.SoundersFC.com

Proceeds from the match will benefit the team’s four community partners: Boys and Girls Club of Washington State, Save the Children, Seattle SCORES and Washington Youth Soccer. Following the match the teams will sign autographs from the field.

The Sounders, Seattle supporters, and the community helped raise over $20,743.30 at George and Dragon last month. We can still accept donations. This money will help rebuild infrastucture and heal a devasted neighbor of Haiit. It was a class night where all supporter groups were represented, writers from Prost Amerika, Sounder at Heart, Soundersfc.com and Seattle Times.

The Challenge

With nearly 120 million Americans living without dental insurance, keeping everyone’s smile pearly white hasn’t always been realistic. Tom’s of Maine Dental Health For All™ supports those community organizations that provide dental care to people who would otherwise go without. Tom’s of Maine is proud to help fund community-based clinics that are working hard to fill the gaps in dental coverage and access.

The Project

Seattle-based Neighborcare Health is building a new, permanent dental clinic in Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood, to preserve and expand services for thousands of low-income and uninsured residents. Serving nearly 4,300 patients annually, our clinic is the largest community health provider of primary dental care to Seattle’s low income and uninsured residents, regardless of ability to pay. A $20,000 grant from Tom’s of Maine will sponsor the cost of adding one dental chair to the new clinic, which will provide for over 1,400 additional dental visits each year. By the end of 2011, the entire clinic will be able to provide 17,000 visits for a total of 6,200 patients annually, a 43% increase over current capacity.

Soccer in North America has a dynamic and rich history that is multiracial, and embraces the strength that comes with its diversity. The history of soccer here is unique from other parts of the world, in that a philosophy of inclusiveness has always been apparent in all of its aspects, including players, supporters, and management.

As soccer continues to grow in the North American continent, it is imperative that each of us take responsibility in ensuring the diverse heritage and culture of the sport continues.

Our campaign http://theredcardna.org/campaign.shtml has the following aims in mind:

Increase players, management, and supporters’ understanding of the inclusive heritage and diverse culture of soccer in North America.
To promote young people’s participation as active and responsible citizens in a growing multi-racial and diverse society.
Provide tools and resources for management, supporters, and players to respond to bigotry in positive ways.
Harness the high profile of top soccer players as role models to grab the interests of and educate the larger community on issues of inclusion and opportunity.
Involvement of the leagues and/or teams to adopt anti-racism measures and inclusion of policies and practices, both on the field and in the stands.
Providing team and league management the tools and framework to be able to swiftly deal with incidents of racist abuse and insults in a uniform manner.
Showcase the unique strength of soccer in North America due in part to its diversity.

Sounders’ Steve Zakuani and James Riley Fundraiser for Haiti Earthquake victims at George & Dragon! 1/23 530pm

With the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, Sounder’s Steve Zakuani and James Riley, George & Dragon and Gorilla FC are hosting a benefit for the Port-au-Prince victims at the classic football pub located in Fremont on Saturday, January 23 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. The earthquake has hit our neighborly nation that is already fighting economic instability and political chaos for decades.

Generation Adidas star, Sounders FC midfielder and MLS 2009 1st round draft pick Steve Zakuani and defensive star James Riley and friends, will be signing autographs and taking pictures to raise money for Haiti. There is a suggested donation of $5 for autographs. There will be 8X10’s donated by the Sounders of Steve and James to the first 100 donations of $5. George & Dragon will also be collecting a $5 suggested door fee with all proceeds going to Haiti. Gorilla FC will be raffling autographed Sounders FC gear, used Zakuani shoes, used Ianni shoes, autographed jersey’s, gift certificates to Fado and Vita Coffee with more items to come. Also up for auction is the URL rights to www.soundersfcsoccer.com Raffle tickets are $5 per ticket with all money going to Haiti. Steve Zakuani and James Riley will be at the event around 7pm.

Gorilla FC is ready for 2010. A great first year in the MLS. None can match it. Year two’s numbers look large for the Sounders in year 2, as does Gorillas. Come on out and bring your abilities to help us grow.

Bring your abilities to help us grow stronger. Gorilla FC is about to plan out the year ahead and if you have an idea for fundraising. We have a Tifo night coming up in making banners and flags, as well as working on atmosphere in general and chants. There will be a GFC sponsored workshop on racism in football and fighting facists in communities.

Thanks to Fado for the great beginning!
